Developing an MSP Company Leadership Attitude
If your MSP company has leadership at the top that is self-interested, greedy, aloof, or apt to treat employees with communicably inferior regard, don’t be surprised if the same kind of behavior characterizes the entire operation. The leader of an organization is like the gem at the illuminated end of a laser. All the light goes through it and is focused on one direction. If the diode is one color or makeup, the beam will coherently demonstrate as much. If your leadership is an ugly shade of selfishness, this will color staff. By contrast, having the kind of staff that you can depend on will require you to become their role model. Do things like this:
- Be straightforward and honest
- Roll up your sleeves when necessary
- Treat employees how you wish to be treated
Be Straightforward and Honest
Your MSP company reflects your values. If you tell the truth to employees, and you’re a straight shooter, they will, by and large, be compelled to do the same in a natural way. Especially if they see you “take one on the chin”, they’ll be apt to do the right thing even if it smarts a bit. Admit your mistakes, admit your successes, keep your word, follow through. Do these things, and your employees will follow you.
Roll Up Your Sleeves When Necessary
Don’t merely delegate. When the time calls for it, roll up your sleeves and do some of the hard work yourself. This is extremely humbling to employees and will definitely spur them on to do better.
Treat Employees How You Wish to Be Treated
Follow the golden rule. Sometimes, you’ve got to be demanding; sometimes you’ve got to be accommodating–all situations differ. So, treat others how you would be treated yourself.
Better Operations Through Better Leadership
Your MSP company will reflect its leadership. Be the best you can be, and you’re more likely to see this contagious leadership trait become an aspect of your corporate culture.
