In the Gangster world, it’s not uncommon for thugs to treat the businesses in their community like they own them. They issue demands they expect to be followed and if the gang enters a business they act like they own the place. Of course, there always a threat of violence if anyone ever dares complain.
While his type of ruthless behavior is viewed as abhorrent by good upstanding citizens, have some in the MSP Marketing business world adopted these unsavory business tactics?
Consulting or Demanding?
One of the keywords that many tech providers often call themselves is a consultant. However, in my 17 years of working in the MSP marketing business world I have witnessed many IT providers that are far from being a consultant. Instead, many IT guys have a very arrogant attitude when dealing with their customers as they make demands about what their end users need for IT procurement. If their client ask question to try to understand these gangsters just talk over them or begin speaking technobabble that will go over their client’s head and make them feel stupid.
Who’s the Owner?
When it comes time for a business owner to review their IT services by taking out some competitive bids it’s important to have all the server credentials. This will allow another IT provider to log In and gather the important data that will be needed to provide an accurate proposal. Unfortunately, I have witnessed, with my own eyes, executives begging their current computer consultant for their credentials so a competitor can gain access to the server and being denied! This is a clear example of a gangland MSP Business acting like they own their customers IT equipment and deciding who gets access to their client’s servers.
Who’s got the Documentation
Another way that a mafioso MSP marketing business can hold their client’s hostage is by not revealing their clients network documentation. This data should be kept in the hands of the end users so they can know where everything thing technology is located, settings, passwords, updates etc.… When an IT provider withholds this vital information, it makes it difficult for end users to ever switch IT providers. This one of the key stratagems ruthless IT companies use to enslave their customers!
While these nefarious techniques may work for a corrupt MSP marketing business in the short term the end users eventually get tired of the ill treatment and cancel their contracts. It’s important of every IT company to do a self-evaluation to see if they have any of these gangland tendencies. If you can identify an aggressive attitude then it’s time to switch gears and become more customer centric!
