Got Talent Or Are You Just Throwing Technology At Marketing?

Tuesday, September 6th, 2011

Open MicWhen it comes to marketing strategies more and more computer business providers are placing a premium on technology solutions.  In other words, if there is a way to automate something or use a software tool to simplify human efforts for IT services marketing, then this automatically glitters as gold to your average tech provider.  Now some telemarketing companies are polishing their service models by adding lots of razzle dazzle technology solutions in their overall marketing packages.  You might be asking what could possibly be wrong with using tech solutions to polish off telemarketing.  Well there is nothing wrong with that unless, just having raw talent alone might achieve better results! Adversity Should Always Be Expected!

Thursday, September 1st, 2011

istock_000002266770xsmall-300x199Murphy’s Law says that if anything can go wrong then it will go wrong! However, most computer business people don’t consider that aspect of life when they sit down to plan out their marketing.  The majority of the time when they have outsourced their telemarketing they expect everything to go perfectly.  However, many times when a computer consultant hits a snag or a bump in road during their marketing campaign they tend to have a knee jerk reaction and want to make a huge course correction.  Of course, we need to always consider when the time is right to make changes, but on the other hand if a business is constantly changing direction then they might just end up going in circles.  One good example of this is Block Buster Video’s marketing efforts which keep changing at the first sign of serious competition.  At one point their model was changing so fast it would make your head spin and now they have had to sell out!  So how should managed services providers deal with adversity? Success With IT Marketing Depends On Negotiating!

Thursday, August 4th, 2011

istock_000000114327xsmallIn a perfect world a computer business owner should be able to arbitrarily come up with their pricing model and never have to come down from that price.  Unfortunately this is not a perfect world and the market place is still going to decide what the price and terms for IT services is going to be.  This is an extremely messy process but that is exactly how establishing the fair price for any service works.  The initial marketing sets the price from a blind spot and hopes to get as close to what the market place will accept.  However, what happens when you find prospects through your IT marketing that are willing to talk and consider a proposal but end up rejecting your offer based on price or terms?  Should you just get up and indignantly walk out of the door?  Or should you be prepared with a counter offer and begin negotiations? The Words We Think Of Most Have A Powerful Influence!

Wednesday, July 20th, 2011

istock_000010676885xsmallThe other day I was posting a blog using word press and noticed the keyword tool where it list all the keywords you have used and how often.  The unique feature is that it shows the more often used words by making them larger and more bold.  There was one word that I had used as a key word far more than any other word and that was IT services marketing.  This was the largest and most highlighted word that was listed among all the smaller words.  It was while examining these key words and realizing that my attention was always drawn to the largest word. Then I realized the truth of the core message in “Think and Grow Rich”.  The more we think about certain words or ideas in our minds the more prominent they become in our thinking process and inevitably have a larger influence on our actions!  How can understanding this principal help IT consultants with their marketing? Follow Up On IT Services Marketing Should Be Like A Bulldog!

Thursday, July 7th, 2011

istock_000013550123xsmall2Many computer business owners and technical sales people are looking for IT sales that just fall into their laps.  In other words they want leads with businesses that have immediate needs and are willing to talk about their pain.  However, when they try to increase their leads with a telemarketing campaign they find that most of the contacts they meet with are people that are willing to listen to their marketing presentation; but don’t have an immediate need.  Many times the sales people just drop the ball on these technology sales leads and they just fall through the cracks!  What might these guys be missing in their IT services marketing techniques that could help get more out of their campaigns?

If you meet with someone before they had a need, but you brought to their attention a service or value that they weren’t expecting, then perhaps making sure you keep in contact with this prospect might be a good idea?

Picking Budget IT Services Marketing Is Like Walking Among Mines!

Tuesday, May 17th, 2011

danger mines warning sign closeupToday there are more choices than every before for managed services providers to  conduct a low cost telemarketing campaign.  In fact, so many so that it can seem very alluring to try and spend less on your IT services marketing campaign. Many like this option so that they don’t risk too much capital trying to get their sales leads.  Does spending less for cold calling, so that you don’t risk losing money if it doesn’t work out really make sense?  What if you end up not getting any leads at all, not to mention any ROI?  There are so many horror stories out there from tech providers that waited over three months and didn’t end up getting any leads at all.  In fact, I often compare trying to pick a low budget IT call center to trying to walk through a mind field without blowing up!

What are some of the pitfalls to watch out for if you think that paying a phone center that specializes with marketing for managed services is just to expensive and finding a low cost solution might be a better option?  First you need to know who is going to actually be making the outbound calls on your behalf?  More importantly what type of training or experience do the agents have calling for computer consultants? Monday, March 28th, 2011

Writing a prescription or medical examination notesMost families have a trusted Doctor that they take their family to for every medical issue that arises.  Many times people will just go to one doctor for most of their lives.  Of course, he wears a ‘white coat’ which  means that most people will take his word about their medical conditions without every getting a second opinion, especially if they have trusted him their whole life.    However, what if this Doctor graduated from medical school over 40 years ago and doesn’t keep up with the latest advances  in medical techniques and practices.  This means that the medical advice he gives might not be the very best that could help his patients.   In fact,  you might say he is blocking the benefits that research and progress might bring to his patience.  How might this apply to computer business owners with their IT services marketing?
